A Romantic Calamity

Hello my darlings! I hope you've all had the most fabulous Christmas and a wonderful new year.
It's safe to say I have been an atrocious blogger in the last few months, I can't believe I let my beautiful blog alone for four months and I'm truly sorry for that. I'm writing to you all today to tell you of my new blog; A Romantic Calamity, which I'm hoping will be a new adventure for me.
I started this blog just over a year ago and I am extremely proud of it. Just looking back at the pictures shows me how much I've grown and everything I've achieved, along with support from everyone here. I love this blog and I won't ever delete it because it shows my journey through the first year and a half of university along with countless life-changing moments that I have had the privilege of sharing with you all.
But now I feel its time to move on. When I look back at those early pictures and even the ones from only a few months ago I see a different version of myself, and now I feel is the time for a new start. During my time at university I've seen more of the fashion world and what I can do in it, I've learnt about who I am and what I expect from myself, and I expect more. At university my lecturers are always saying we are now young professionals and I think I'm finally starting to feel like one. I want a blog where I can be professional and be myself at the same time and even though I love A Freak Of Fashion, I don't feel I can do that on here.
So I've started a new blog where I can work on both of these aspects of myself, and as you've guessed I've named it A Romantic Calamity. I thought it suited me pretty well, what with me being a clumsy disaster and my occasional care for feminine graces, along with my love of old romantic films and Oh Calamity by All Time Low being one of my favourite songs ever. I'm going to work harder with this blog, of course I worked on this blog too don't get me wrong but I really want to push myself, I hope you understand.
So finally all thats left to do is say thank you to you all for reading my blabber for the last year and direct you to the new destination for my in-cohesive thoughts; A Romantic Calamity!

Again thank you, I wish you all the best. So long!

MATAR SS15 - Video

Hello my darlings! Sorry this is going up a little later than originally planned, I had a few mishaps with my blog last week.
I promised you all a video of MATAR's LFW debut and I have published it on my Youtube channel but for some reason Blogger won't let me add the video to this post so instead I'm going to give you guys a link to it:

MATAR SS15

I hope you enjoy the video and get a real feel for the show as I really did enjoy myself. I've been back at uni for about three weeks now and already the work is piling up so I'll try and post as often as I can. I hope if any of you have returned to school or uni you're enjoying yourselves. Until next time.

LFW | MATAR - SS15 Collection

Hello my lovelies, how are you all? I hope you're all happy and enjoying your week.
Today I wanted to share some pictures with you that I took whilst I was down at LFW a few weeks ago of a show that I was invited into.
On the Monday of FW (15th) I was wandering around the courtyard at Somerset House with my friend Elena when we were approached by a lady who asked if we wanted to see a show. My initial reaction was "Like you have to ask?! Yes, obviously! Let us in!" but I felt a polite acceptance would be less embarrassing for all parties involved so kindly said yes please. She then directed us down some stairs to another lady who took our names and then lead us into a small exhibition space. As we can closer to the door a jazzy, upbeat music floated from the room and when we entered it, the music was complimented by a collection of energetic couples having the time of their lives dancing around the space. Instead of a show, MATAR had opted for a performance, and I must say it was wonderful.
The dancers were all wearing her new collection which was quite charming and hung gracefully off the dancers as they spun and jumped around the room. The experience gave me a really nostalgic feeling as if I was gazing into a lost time of youth and glory. I also loved how evidently you could see the dancers having a good time, they were laughing and smiling all the way through the performance which made the show even more enjoyable to watch.
Of course, I couldn't resist taking pictures of this wonderful presentation and so here they are!:
(By the way, I haven't edited these at all because I wanted you guys to see what the show was really like.)

As you can see the pieces are really lovely, quite simple but elegant and languid. I really like this collection and can't wait to see more work from MATAR. This was her debut presentation at LFW and I think it was a wonderful way to start what will hopefully become a fantastic tradition.
Upon leaving the presentation, I asked the lady at the door about the designer and she gave me a press sheet, here is a snipet from it:

"MATAR SS15 celebrates the thrill of the amusement park, Coney Island in its heyday during the 1950s. The loops and wooden scaffolding of the roller coasters, the candy stands, the frilly dresses and puffy skirts if the young girls running around all become intrinsic features of the clothes. In particular, the spinning rides, where people are plunged upside down, screaming with excitement are captured through suspender and spaghetti straps that are twisted and draped into garments and transform into whimsical ruffles. Producing a collection that is highly feminine and sensual while retaining all the fun elements that Coney Island embodies. The collection touches upon the search for lost youth: and interplay between kids having fun, wearing their parent's oversized clothes that hang loose off the body, and adults trying to reclaim their youth, and adorning themselves with youthful elements such as suspenders and innocent bows. This dichotomy is what the collection fully celebrates."

Upon reading this press sheet, immediately I saw all of these elements within the collection. The draping of the fabric, the elegance of the dresses and the soft colours in collection, it all screams eternal youth and lost glory days, I could not help but stand and gaze in wonder at the beauty of it. I love this collection because it is so understated and graceful but in a subtle and modest way. I would wear any of these pieces gladly however I think my favourite is the orange jumpsuit because the fabric is gorgeous and the cut out back reminds me of the freedom and elegance of the age.
I was so happy and grateful to be let in to see this show because it was absolutely wonderful to behold and filled me excitement. I'd like to thank MATAR for allowing me to see her show.
Well everyone that is all I have for you today I hope you enjoyed this post and didn't get too bored of all my excitement-fuelled babble. I made a video with some footage that I took of the show as well and so that will be on here soon too so keep your eyes open, it should be up in a few days. As always I hope you're all feeling fab and I will see you soon.

A Very Late London Fashion Week!

Hello my lovelies! Its been a while, how are you all? Good I hope.
So as a few of you may know I was lucky enough to go down to London Fashion Week before returning to Newcastle for uni and it was amazing.
It wasn't my first Fashion Week experience as I was really really lucky to go to New York City for FW in February but the two were worlds apart. Looking back New York seemed very surreal having now been to London because it felt very exclusive and elite as security was ridiculous and there was no atmosphere. Whereas London was incredible, there were hundreds of people all at different levels within the industry and all were accepted to walk around the courtyard of Somerset house and enjoy the buzz of Fashion Week. I felt so welcome and everyone I spoke to was open and friendly and I've made quite a few good friends through the experience. If you are a fashion fanatic or a photographer or a professional people watcher I would seriously recommend going because it is just electric, usually its quiet in the mornings but it always picks up in the afternoon and there is no shortage of stylistic inspiration (I would advise however, if you are prone to shoe envy FW could ruin your life).
I didn't have any tickets to any shows as I didn't know I could go until about a week before the event and by then it was too late to apply for any tickets but I went down to do some research for a university project and some street style snaps and as you can imagine I took a billion and one photographs while I was down there so today I'm going to share them with all of you!

Tuesday
Again I didn't spend very long at FW on the Tuesday because on of my best ever friends Nina travelled down to London to meet me as we hadn't seen each other in two years! So we spent the day wandering around London but here are a few of the ones I took:

So there you are! I hope you enjoyed looking at all my pictures, as you can see there were so many people and everyone looked amazing! It was so refreshing to see so many people wearing so many different styles but still looking so cool. I came away feeling so inspired from LFW, all the people I'd met and everything I'd seen has set me up perfectly for this semester and now I can't wait to get back to my work and focused on fashion again. I hope if you guys have gone back to uni or school you're feeling as excited as I am.
I really hope you enjoyed this post, who do you think looked the best? Leave me a comment below. I still have a few things from FW to show you so stay tuned! I'll see you soon my darlings.
